Student Assessments
At the end of each term, we do skill assessments in all of our classes for youth ages 6+. Our goal is to learn more about our students’ progress in hopes of recommending the most appropriate class for the following term(s). It is also helpful as we create our curriculum to know the effect our lessons are having on kids of various ages and developmental stages.
The assessments take place over 2 weeks, just before the end of the term. We do our very best to keep assessments brief, low key, and fun. If you child’s instructors recommend they move up a level, we send you an email with upcoming opportunities. If you do not receive an email, the instructors recommend your child remain at the same level for the next term.
It is not uncommon for students to take the same class for several terms, especially classes that are listed as Level 1 & 2 or Level 2+. These classes are intended to engage students with a range of skills. The instructors often divide the class into 2 or 3 groups, depending on age, focus, and skill level. If your child is taking the same class 2 or 3 times, chances are they are moving up from one group to another and continuing to learn new tricks, build strength, and improve technique within the context of the mixed level class.
